Action-packed Wild West Weekend at the Royal Armouries Museum

Tuesday, 10 July 2018

Howdy pardners! Grab your Stetsons and mosey on down to the Royal Armouries for a Wild West extravaganza this August Bank Holiday weekend.

From Saturday 25 – Monday 27 August the amazing Atkinson Action Horses will be taking to the Armouries’ outdoor arena to perform their boot-stomping, gun-slinging, stunt-riding Wild West spectacular, with shows at 12 noon and 3 pm daily.

Famed for their television and film work, including the BBC’s Poldark, Peaky Blinders and ITV’s Victoria, highlights of the show will include sharp-shooting, trick-riding, liberty displays and a stage coach battle complete with stirrup drags and impressive horse to carriage transfers.

Over the weekend visitors can also learn about the life and times of legendary American scout, bison hunter and showman, Buffalo Bill, as part of the museum’s ongoing Legends series of events. There will be storytelling for children and adults, live-action performances, combat demonstrations, music, film and activities for all ages to enjoy.

Other upcoming events in the Legends series include weekends inspired by China’s greatest heroine Mulan (28 & 29 July), skilled archer and Indian hero Arjuna (15 & 16 September), King of Norway who battled for the English throne Harald Hardrada (13 & 14 October), fierce Celtic Queen Boudicca (24 & 25 November) and legendary leader of medieval myth King Arthur (29 – 31 December).

Mark Jackson, Events and Informal Learning Manager comments: “We are delighted to welcome back Atkinson Action Horses to our outdoor arena. The horse shows promise to be a real spectacle, Atkinson’s are some of the best riders in the business and the shows will include all the high-octane stunts you see in old western blockbusters. The weekend will be full of activities for all of the family to enjoy, including action-packed outdoor Wild West standoffs, have-a-go sessions and much more.”

Tickets for the Wild West Horse Show are £6 per adult, £3.50 per child and £15 for a family and are available through Eventbrite.
