Dr Burnett retired in 2013 from the role of Deputy Director of the British Museum. Prior to that, he worked in the museum’s Department of Coins and Medals (1974–2003).
An Oxford University graduate, he also studied at the Institute of Archaeology, University of London, and has a particular interest in the coinage and history of the Roman Republic and Empire.
Andrew was appointed a CBE in the 2012 New Year’s Honours List for services to the British Museum and Numismatics. His books include Coinage in the Roman World and the first three volumes of Roman Provincial Coinage. He was elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 2003, and appointed an Honorary Professor at UCL in 2013. He is a past President of the Roman Society and of the Royal Numismatic Society. He is Chairman of the Trustees of the Royal Mint Museum.
Andrew Burnett became a Trustee for the Royal Armouries in March 2014.
